What's New?

31 January 2003

I added a summary for Inauguration (Part II) and added a page for California 47th, even though it doesn't have a summary yet. I've updated the Upcoming Episodes page accordingly.

Unless there's some sort of HUGE news development on the show, B4A won't be updated until next Wednesday when the redesign goes live. In the meantime, check out the message board for any news, spoilers, etc.

29 January 2003

The Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were announced yesterday.  The West Wing scored four nominations:

  • Martin Sheen: Male Actor in a Drama Series
  • Allison Janney: Female Actor in a Drama Series
  • Lily Tomlin: Female Actor in a Drama Series
  • Ensemble in a Drama Series

28 January 2003

Just a quick update to the news archive: Martin Sheen's 'West Wing' Fantasy.  Also check out the interview on NPR's website-- there's an extended audio version AND there's a link to B4A on the bottom of the page. Many thanks to Pauline for sending me the link.

I've also updated the Upcoming Episodes. Like I said last week, we're holding off on doing too many updates so we don't screw things up with the redesign.

Quick question from the DC filming this weekend.  Was the person holding the Bartlet 4 America/CJ 4 America sign one of our visitors? :-)  Also, Josh Malina takes care of the fans.  He brought out blowpops to the folks shivering in the cold.  All of the show's actors are always incredibly gracious, but Josh was extra sweet.

Lastly, a special thanks to the volunteers we've had who are willing to beta the site redesign once it's up and working. We can always use more, though, so if you'd be willing to, let me know. We're aiming to test it out the beginning of next week, so that it will be live in time for Inauguration Day.

21 January 2003

Sorry for the lack of updates of late.  Ryo and I are in the midst of a site redesign and we're trying not to get too confused with different versions of the site floating around. Hopefully we'll be done soon and get the news archive back up and running. If you'd like to help us beta-test the site once we're done, let me know

BUT I *have* updated the Upcoming Episodes page for your enjoyment.

14 January 2003

I've updated the News Archive. Thanks, Jo!

09 January 2003

I've updated the Upcoming Episodes page.

We've started with the updates for Guns Not Butter.  I've updated the Character Guide with more senators than you can shake a stick at.  The cast list on the episode page is coming soon.

Can I just get something off of my chest?  President Bartlet has a Ph.D. in economics and he's quite the grammar aficionado. SURELY he knows that the word "data" is a plural noun and takes a plural verb.

24 December 2002

Yeah, so I lied.

I've added a photo of Matthew Modine and Allison Janney to the The Long Goodbye page.  I've also updated a number of the cast lists to the Episode Guide and the measly one line summary of Guns Not Butter

The B4A staff would like to wish all of our visitors happy holidays and a happy new year!

20 December 2002

This is probably our last update until New Year's (knock wood). You asked for it, and so I'll help you out. Thanks to Cindy for suggesting our newest addition to the B4A Merchandise page.

19 December 2002

Golden Globe nominations are out. The West Wing garnered a nomination for Best Drama Series, Allison Janney was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, and Martin Sheen for Best Actor.

18 December 2002

The people at NBC heard my pleas! Or, they updated their site.  Many thanks to Sandra for the heads-up on the official confirmation. Accordingly, I've updated the Upcoming Episodes page with the new info and put the summary up on The Long Goodbye. There's still not a summary for Guns Not Butter, just to confuse us.

17 December 2002

I updated the News Archive with the press release about the show's AFI Award

I've updated the Upcoming Episodes page.  Jo's reported that the 8 January episode is entitled "The Long Goodbye" and the 15 January episode is "Guns, Not Butter." I'm just going to keep that info here until I see official confirmation on one of the NBC sites or the TV Guide site, though.

I updated the B4A Merchandise page. I added a new bumper sticker, playing on Jeb Bush's campaign materials:

13 December 2002

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page, but just to take Holy Night off. The B4A staff has updated the Holy Night page with links and cast lists. That means I've also updated Character Guide and the Episode Guide. Also, to celebrate his addition to the credits, Will Bailey has his own page. Ryo updated the West Wing, the Musical page.

News Updates (Thanks, Jo!):

I think that's all for the updates, but I'm not promising accuracy. :-)

9 December 2002

I've updated the news archive. Thanks to Jo and Kate for pointing me toward 'West Wing' fans: Who needs Sam?. Thanks again to Jo and also to Kati for sending me Actor Casts His Lot With Jewish Ideals, an article about Joshua Malina. I also have an excerpt from an article in the Sacramento Bee, which I didn't feel was quite long enough to add to the news archive, so I've added it here. See how you get rewarded by reading the What's New? page?

Coming Distractions: Timothy Busfield will make a 'Watergatey' return to 'The West Wing'
By David Barton
The Sacramento Bee

Sacramentan Timothy Busfield -- who has been very little the Sacramentan lately, since he's been the executive producer for NBC's "Ed" on the East Coast -- will be seen all over town next week ... on thousands of TVs.

Busfield will be reappearing on "The West Wing" on Dec. 11, reprising his role as investigative reporter Danny Concannon, who will have uncovered something rotten in the White House.

"It's very 'Watergatey,' " Busfield told Distractions from New Jersey, where "Ed" is taped. "I've got this story that I think will become the big story as the season snowballs ... but I haven't told the guys on 'Ed' yet."

Actually, "the guys on 'Ed'" will find out soon enough, as Busfield also will be guest-starring on "Ed" at 8 the same night, potentially diluting his impact as a guest star. Busfield chuckles. "I guess I'll be getting a call from the network on Thursday morning," he says.

7 December 2002

Ryo, here, avoiding studying for finals at all costs.  Which means:  screengrabs galore!  That's right; not only did I finally update the West Wing, the Musical page (and thanks to everyone who sent additions and corrections), but I added art.  Whee!  Also did a little minor updating on the Sports Night page (duh, Ryo: Will/Will Bailey).

6 December 2002

Just a quick note to let y'all know that there's free shipping on the Official West Wing Merchandise today through Sunday. (Details are here.)

Also, I updated the Upcoming Episodes page.

3 December 2002

From E! Online:

For little Mary Louisa Whitford's sake, let's hope Jane Kaczmarek doesn't borrow her mommy-ing techniques from the Malcolm in the Middle playbook.

The actress, best known as Malcolm's tough-love matriarch, gave birth to Mary last week at Los Angeles' Good Samaritan Hospital, Kaczmarek's publicist confirmed Monday.

Mary made her debut at 9:32 a.m., on November 25, tipping the scales at 10 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 21 inches.

Mary marks the third joint production for Kaczmarek, who turns 47 on December 21, and her West Wing costar hubby, Bradley Whitford, 43.

"Mother and daughter are resting comfortably," the parents announced in a joint statement.

"Father is struggling with hair loss."

Kaczmarek and Whitford, who were married in 1993, already have a five-year-old daughter, Frances, and a two-year-old son, George.

Congratulations to Jane and Bradley! Thanks to Jo for sending the article!

Also, Ryo and Philateley and I have updated the Page About the Thing, the Character Guide, the Arctic Radar page, and the Upcoming Episodes page. Possibly we've played around with many other pages as well. It's all becoming a blur.

1 December 2002

I've updated the cast list for Arctic Radar, as well as its entry in the Page About the Thing. I edited these pages in Notepad, so please email me if you notice any errors.

29 November 2002

I updated the News Archive with two new articles (NBC opens a 'West Wing' in Orange County and Lowe leaves 'West Wing' for whatever's next). I've also added a summary for Holy Night. Thanks to Jo for all of those things.

I've updated the Episode Guide and the Character Guide, but the major updates won't be up until later in the weekend, at the earliest.

Thanks so much for all your merchandise suggestions! I've added a couple products that were requested to the B4A Merchandise page. I've also gotten a couple emails from people who would like to buy the cafepress products, but who can't because they don't have a credit card. Please check out their website for details on paying by check, money order, or paypal.

27 November 2002

I'm not obssessed. I'm just a fan and I care.

Yes, we at B4A are considering Arctic Radar to be one giant shout-out to our giant site of crazy, and we feel honored. So, to celebrate, we've created a special mug for you B4A visitors. Go check it out!

Regular updates to the B4A site will resume after the Thanksgiving holiday. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

26 November 2002

I updated the cast list on the Swiss Diplomacy page. I updated the Upcoming Episodes page to include Holy Night, which will air on December 11. I also updated the News Archive to include an article from the LA Times (Prime-time presidents: It's wit versus grit) that contrasts the presidents of The West Wing and 24. Many thanks to Jo for all the heads-ups.

I'm very pleased to announce some new additions to our Extras page. First of all, Philateley spent untold hours cataloguing every usage of "the thing" on the show. The result is a hysterical and frighteningly thorough Page About the Thing. Go check it out! Thanks to the entire B4A staff (Philateley, Jo, Ryo, Trixie, and QofMush), each of whom gave me great ideas and did a fabulous job beta-testing the new pages. If you find any errors, they're mine, and you should let me know about them.

Also, in response to the many requests, I've added two pages of merchandise to the site. The first offers Official West Wing Merchandise, courtesy of ShopNBC. And just in time for holiday gift-giving!

Then I've also set up a cafepress store for B4A.org Merchandise with t-shirts, bumper stickers, and my personal favorite item: the B4A backpack. I've put up a few initial designs, but I am open to suggestions from site visitors. In case you're interested, proceeds from the sales of the WW and B4A merchandise will go towards server costs, maintaining an ad-free message board, and that sort of thing.

22 November 2002

I updated the Arctic Radar page to include its summary and preliminary cast list.

21 November 2002

Two new articles:

We updated the Character Guide and the Upcoming Episodes page and the Swiss Diplomacy page. We're working on some great new features for the site, so be sure to check back soon!

20 November 2002

I updated The Backpack Page and Ryo updated Election Night because Ryo's been a screengrabbing fool.

19 November 2002

Ryo's updated many many pages, but she hasn't listed them here. We've updated the hell out of the Character Guide and the Upcoming Episodes page. We've also changed the pages for 20 Hours in America, 20 Hours in America II, College Kids, and The Red Mass (and probably others I neglected), adding pictures and updating the cast lists.

14 November 2002

I added a new article, thanks to Jo (How high can you fly on a left 'Wing'? Viewers cast their vote).

I updated the Episode Guide and the Upcoming Episodes page, as well as the Character Guide and the Process Stories page. Many thanks to Philateley and Ryo for all their help.

At some point in the next couple months, we're looking at doing a site redesign-- or at least some housecleaning to improve the site's navigateability (which is a word I either made up or stole from the Navy). Have any suggestions?  Let me know what things about the site make it easy for you to use, and what parts confuse you. If you have any special features you'd like us to carry, drop me a line.

13 November 2002

Thanks to kate, I added a little article to the news archive (‘West Wing’ episode to feature Dayton).

It also seems that I erased Ryo's update about how she's added even more frightening details to the  Sports Night pages.

12 November 2002

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page to include Arctic Radar. I also added two articles to the News Archive (Exit poll: 'West Wing' is sinking. Why? and Taking 'Wing' Again).

7 November 2002

I updated the Backpack Page, even though it was a Messenger Bag sighting last night.

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page, the Character Guide, and the episode page for Election Night. I also added a summary and cast list to next week's Process Stories.

6 November 2002

I added the TVGuide summary for Swiss Diplomacy.

4 November 2002

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page, the Character Guide, and the episode page for Game On. I added an episode page for Swiss Diplomacy.

Decisions are made by those who show up. Tomorrow is Election Day for many of us, so I want to encourage you to vote.  Remember, in the immortal words of Will Bailey: No matter who you vote for, make sure you vote!

1 November 2002

I added two new articles, thanks to Jo:

I also updated the Upcoming Episodes page, the Character Guide, and the episode page for Game On.

30 October 2002

I added a review from TV Guide, thanks to Jo. I also updated the Upcoming Episodes page.

29 October 2002

I added two articles this morning.  I added An Interview with ‘West Wing’ Creator Aaron Sorkin, from Newsweek to the News Archive, thanks to Jo.   I also added The Land That Time Zones Forgot to the 20 Hours in America pages, thanks to Christine.

Ryo has been playing around with a number of the first season episode pages, so be sure to check those out.  She's adding dialogue excerpts because we obviously don't have *enough* information around here. ;-)

Also, just a reminder that the Sports Night DVDs come out a week from today!

Edited to add that I updated the Episode Guide with November 13th's episode title: Process Stories. Thanks, Jo!

28 October 2002

Who missed me?

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page.  I also added some news articles, thanks to Jo.

And then I added an article entitled ‘West Wing’ dialogue is too racy, thanks to kate.

I also met Rev. Jesse Jackson, but that has nothing to do with the update-- I'm just sharing.

18 October 2002

Hello, all.  Ryo here.  Pardon any bad code; I have not Morgan's mad skillz. :)  While she's gone, feel free to send links, suggestions, and "Hey, your code is all *#%d up" emails my way.

First:  Thanks to Kati, we can confirm that Joshua Malina of Sports Night fame has a five-episode guest-starring role on the West Wing.  A tidbit which has been independently confirmed by NBC's episode blurb for Election Night (Thanks, Jo!).

Now, updates.  Well, okay, first of all, I did the part I like best--updating the Character Pages with fun tidbits and quotes from Debate Camp, which now has guest stars, credits, and fun links.  I also added a news article (...But He Plays One on TV:  Ron Silver to Guest-Host 'Crossfire') and updated the songs page, because I'm a nut like that.

16 October 2002

Short vacation, wasn't it? ;-)

Before I leave, I've added a new article on Alex Graves (EHS Grad's Work Yields Emmys).  I also added a picture to the  Game On page.

Now I'm really going on vacation.

15 October 2002

So, when I said it would be finished "tomorrow," I obviously meant "next week."

New articles:

I updated the Upcoming Episodes page and put up the summary for Game On. I've updated the The Backpack Page, which is steadily becoming The Messenger Bag Page, much to Philateley's dismay. The Assistants' page is functional again, but I've lost some of Deborah Fiderer's info.  That's coming, I swear. Other than that, the Character Guide and the Episode Guide for Red Mass should be complete. I moved a number of people, like Stackhouse and Fiderer around, so please let me know if anything's gone all sporky from the reorganization.

I'm going on vacation, so the rest of the campaign staff (and in particular, the rockin' Ryo) will be covering for me in my absence.  Don't miss me too much!

11 October 2002

Ryo and I have updated the Character Guide and the Episode Guide for Red Mass, but there's quite a bit left to do. It should be finished tomorrow. I updated the Upcoming Episodes page.

Thanks to Jo, Ed, Dana, Natalie, and Charlotte, all of whom sent me articles for the news archive.

7 October 2002

Please don't email me to tell me the assistants' page is screwed up. I know.  I'm working on finding the backup.

Two new articles: 'West Wing' Wizard & Fund-Raiser Takes Flight With 'West Wing's' Help. No, I don't know why I update the news archive in twos.

Thanks to Kate for pointing out my broken links on this page.

4 October 2002

Still with the computer issues.  That's why the assistants' page is sporky. I have a backup somewhere, but I have to find it amongst all the boxes in my apartment.

Two new articles in the news archive: 'West Wing' Gets Ready to Rock and then Jo (who rocks) transcribed Aaron Sorkin's interview on Charlie Rose.

The entire B4A campaign staff has done a ton to help me with this latest update (see, they *all* rock). Be sure to see the updated College Kids page, and the additions to the character guide. Ryo's also updated the songs page and the Clinton Connection page-- I forgot to mention that last time.

Any questions?  Any additions/corrections?  Send me an email!

29 September 2002

Please excuse any updating delays or crappy coding, as I'm having some computer issues.

First of all, let me thank the entire B4A campaign staff, all of whom have been invaluable this week.

What *didn't* I update?  I added three new news articles:

I also updated the hell out of 20 Hours in America, Parts I and II. I updated every single character page, I think, but I won't waste space by linking them all. And lastly, I updated the schedule to include Game On.

23 September 2002

For those of you who missed the Emmys last night, the WW winners were:

  • Outstanding Drama Series: The West Wing
  • Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series: Allison Janney
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series: John Spencer
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series: Stockard Channing
  • Oustanding Special-Class Program: The West Wing: Documentary Special

I've posted some pictures from the show and the red carpet: 2002 Emmys. And for those of you with some extra cash, looking to help a good cause, check this out:

19 September 2002

Thanks to Jo for getting me the summary for Debate Camp and the Variety article on the Rob Lowe situation!

Also, I must thank the rockin' QofMush, who's given me a ton of Variety Emmy ads for the show.  My *goal* was to have them scanned in before the Emmys, but I'm having scanner issues, so that won't happen.  Someday soon, though, I promise! (And Josh/Donna fans, there's a great one for y'all.)
