I'm part of that darkness now, Leo. When did that happen?

It's Monday morning, and Zoey Bartlet's been missing since late Saturday night. Walken gets a hard lesson on the very real consequences of military action, when he makes condolence calls to the parents of soldiers who died during an operation he ordered. Josh suspects Walken's staff may be plotting to push through legislation during Walken's tenure in the Oval Office. Toby and Will work on a joyful speech and a mournful speech, and disagree over the tone Bartlet should take when he reassumes power. Leo struggles with divided loyalties, and must ultimately inform President Bartlet that the attack Walken ordered may cost Zoey her life.

Dialogue Excerpts:

Toby:  Did you get any sleep last night?

Will:  Haffley.  Can you believe it?

Toby:  We can filibuster in the Senate.

Josh:  Not on partial-birth or tax cuts.

Will:  What are we talking about?

Josh:  Getting our asses kicked.

Josh:  There's a guy in my office, says he works for me, knows you.  Ryan--

Leo:  Pierce, yeah.  He's your new intern.

Josh:  I thought we decided I didn't have to have interns any more.

Leo:  No, you decided.

Josh:  Fine.

Toby:  How's he doing?

Leo:  Not so good.

Toby:  He knows if there's anything...

Leo:  He knows.

Leo:  This isn't about Shareef.

Bartlet:  You're right.  It's not.  It's about our allowing situations in these countries to develop in the first place.

Leo:  I'm not gonna let you do this.

Bartlet:  We choose the order and certainty of petty despots over the uncertainty and chaos of developing democracies.
