Gratias tibi ago, domine. Yes, I lied. It was a sin. I've committed many sins.
The Haitian army encircles the American Embassy, where Americans and the Haitian president have taken cover, and the President ponders a rescue mission. Leo arranges for an entrepenuer to offer Toby a job as news director of a cable news outlet as a way to demostrate to Bartlet that his staffers are loyal. Sam argues bitterly against going forward with the President's admission, while the White House staff prepares for Mrs. Landingham's funeral at the National Cathedral. At the close of the ceremony, an anguished Jed Bartlet eloquently curses God as a feckless thug, defiantly declaring that he won't seek re-election. After a harrowing interview with Abbey by his side and time for meditation on his own, the President approaches the press conference with renewed confidence.
