Personal Background
- Charlie was 21 years old in 2000 [1.11].
- Charlie's father is long gone [1.3], and his mother was a police officer, killed in the line of duty in June of 1999 by a Westing .38 revolver firing KTWs (cop-killer bullets) [1.3]. She wasn't originally supposed to work that night; Charlie asked her to switch [2.3].
- Charlie graduated from Roosevelt High, but he wanted to go to Gonzaga, a parochial school, because there'd never been a shooting there and almost all their students go to college; Charlie's family couldn't afford it [5.15].
- Charlie's grandparents live in Georgia, and they don't get around much [1.7].
- He has a younger sister named Dena [1.3]. Or possibly Deanna [3.13]. He appears to be responsible for her well-being, needing a babysitter if he goes out in the evenings [1.6], though she can kick his ass at basketball [3.13].
- Charlie and Zoey:
- Despite death threats from white supremacist groups [1.17], he and Zoey Bartlet are dating [1.11].
- Were dating, though the circumstances of their breakup remain unclear [4.11].
- On at least one trip to the Bartlet farm in Manchester, Charlie got on and stayed on a horse, though the Bartlets mocked him anyway [5.3].
- Despite Zoey's Dear John email, Charlie respectfully refuses to stop pursuing her because he's still in love with her [4.18]. After consulting Josh, Charlie hiked through the National Arboretum to dig up the bottle of champagne he and Zoey had buried there three years earlier, intending to give it to her as a graduation gift. Instead, he found Zoey waiting for him, and she confessed that she was confused about him [4.22].
- When Charlie learned of Zoey's abduction, his immediate impulse was to drive around Georgetown to help search for her, because he figured they couldn't have gotten far. Josh talked him into staying to answer questions for the Secret Service, and Charlie's knowledge of Jean-Paul's little ecstasy plan turned out to be a key piece of information [4.23].
- Charlie stayed at the President's side during the 72 hours Zoey was missing -- he defied Bartlet's order to go home and sat in a hallway in the Residence; he accompanied the Bartlet family to a private mass; and when Zoey was rescued, Charlie was on the helicopter with the Bartlet clan [5.2].
- Charlie was the intended target of West Virginia White Pride, a neo-nazi group that sent two gunmen to open fire on the President's entourage. Charlie was four feet from the President when the gunfire started [4.3], but physically unhurt, though Jed Bartlet and Josh Lyman both suffered gunshot wounds [2.2].
- Charlie gave some good advice to Zoey's boyfriend, Jean-Paul, about security measures; Jean-Paul answered that perhaps Zoey liked getting her picture taken with him [4.16].
- Charlie met Mechelle Anders at Angela Blake's New Year's Eve party, and they dated for three weeks, until Mechelle told Charlie that she would be working in CJ's press room [5.11].
- At a bar in Orange County, Charlie stepped in to help when a drunken patron started to harass Congresswoman Wyatt for being an unwed mother. When Toby asked the drunk to step back, he slipped and fell; the drunk's friend lunged for Charlie, who punched him and was arrested for assault [4.16].
- Charlie had a lot of time to think when he was in the joint. For two hours and twenty minutes [4.17].
- Charlie is a big fan of the Mayor of D.C., and is jazzed to meet him when he comes in to meet with the President [5.15].
